Mateo Kovacic has promised to change the opinion of his critics and become Inter Milan's version of Andrea Pirlo, as speculation continues to surround his future at the club, reports ESPN.
The Croatia international has been a reported target for Liverpool this summer, with the Reds having lodged a number of bids with no success.
But Kovacic has vowed to stay at the San Siro as he aims to become the Serie A side's answer to Italian icon Pirlo or his Croatian compatriot Luka Modric, rather than a player who failed to build on his potential.
"People should expect the same from me as they expect from everybody else," Kovacic told Italian publication La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
"Maybe they mean I need to be performing with more consistency, but that's not easy when you're not playing every game.
"Playing every game helps you find intensity and consistency in your game. It's something you've got to earn, but playing a lot helps you a lot."
Kovacic, who has made 80 appearances for Inter since his move from Dinamo Zagreb in 2013, and is also hopeful of being fielded in a deeper position next season, as has been suggested by head coach Roberto Mancini.
"But also like Modric, who is another of my idols.
"I like playing there, right at the heart of the action. It's where I get a lot of the ball. I played there for Dinamo Zagreb, and also under [Andrea] Stramaccioni, when I played quite a few good games.
"The fans were enjoying themselves and so was I. I believe my future is in that position."
Regarding his future Kovacic said: "I'm staying here, I'm not moving anywhere. This is what I was looking for, and renewing my contract until 2019 says it all. My relationship with Inter is going to be a long one."
