W've pretty much hit the mute button on the Spanish press and their constant rumblings about a potential return to Atlético for Filipe Luis. The soon to be 30-year-old has declared several times that he's not really looking to leave Chelsea after just one season, despite what could be easily perceived as a lack of meaningful playing time. He claims he's happy, and while we've been linked with young full backs like Baba Rahman off-and-on as well, none of those links look particularly strong or promising. Other than the Spanish rumors, there are no indications of the backup left back wanting to leave.
With that in mind, Marca's latest declaration that Atlético will soon announce the return of Filipe Luis seems a bit far-fetched, especially since it seems to be mostly the result of Atlético president Cerezo declaring his intent to announce "one or two" more signings next week. One of those is bound to be new striker Jackson Martinez, potentially leaving one open spot. This is the spot into which Marca now placed Filipe Luis, who's still on post-Copa América vacation. He's expected to show up at our Montreal training camp next week, but if this report is true, he will instead be showing up at the Vicente Calderón, much to the delight of Diego Simeone, who's said to be a big fan still.
Earlier rumors claimed that the always cash-strapped Madrid side would pay something close to, but certainly something less than the €20m we forked out last summer. Other rumors simply claimed that the left back would go on loan, which would make even less sense.
